2014 Teacher Winner
School: KIPP STRIVE Academy—Atlanta Public Schools
7th Grade Science
Jennifer Freeman hails from North Carolina and was destined to be a teacher! Born to a science teacher almost 30 years ago, Jennifer came into teaching as a Teach For America corps member in 2005. After excelling as a Pogue Scholar at UNC-Chapel Hill, Jennifer wanted to teach for a few years before entering medical school. Little did she know that she would be embarking upon her life’s calling. From the moment she stepped in the classroom, she hasn’t looked back! Jennifer has been in education for 9 years, 8 of which she has spent teaching life science. She has raised over $40,000 of grant money for her classroom and has made educating youth her life’s passion. She now continues to teach 7th Grade Science for her 3rd year at KIPP STRIVE Academy in Southwest Atlanta. She serves as the department chair, grade-level chair, science fair coordinator, and Academic Quiz Bowl team coach all while making sure that her students not only come out embracing science, but also enter the world as better thinkers and more well-rounded people.
