Nancy Janas

2016 Teacher Winner

SCHOOL: Mountain View Elementary School, Cobb County Schools

Nancy Janas has always loved sports and games, so basketball camps were her first “classroom”! She loved teaching the skills seeing the instant “I got it!” on their faces. After graduation from Pfeiffer University, she began teaching Physical Education and coaching volleyball and basketball at Kings Mtn. High School. Her basketball team went to the first Conference championship in the 2 years she was there. Limestone University was recruiting a player and found a new Women’s head coach in the process ~ Nancy went to Limestone to be Women’s Volleyball and Basketball Head Coach/ Athletic Director/Student Activity Director until marrying the love of her life and moving to Georgia. She began teaching Elementary children and coaching on the High School level. THIS is where she found the 2nd love of her life ~ Elementary PE! She is in her 35th year!

PROJECT: Fitness Circuit Stations

We would love to use the grant money to install fitness challenge boards around the track where our students will be able to take a break and jump start another fitness activity for a brief circuit training method.  We hope that these circuit stations would allow our students and staff members the opportunity to exercise while at recess. We would, also, like to have a 100-mile club for our children to aspire to. Fitness is so important to our school that several have written grants to have the fitness balls for seating in their classroom! This is our foundation for all of the other learning strategies in place.
